Journey to the West

Sparkly eyes for a better life

elated for skyscraper lights

daydreaming the life of west

as if home was a ugly place

such was the fantasy of moving west

living life to my very best

do more and care less

my trough and my crest

Moved at 21, with hopes and dreams

adventure of a lifetime it seemed

the excitement, that aspiration

the glimmer that gleamed

but who knew, that thrill was honeymoon

wilting away after a full bloom

for this world was bigger than expected

cutting your whole existence open

all of a sudden, too well and too soon

the only way to breath

is wrapping your soul into a cocoon

face the reality, I talk to thyself

this is the world you live in

where materialism is how you make sense

being authentic is a trend

your social circle, you values and your friends

boast to blend, play pretend

did the change maim you?

have you lost the sight?

the girl who stood proud

are you still that soul with sparkly eyes?

do you still stand out from the crowd?

after a few years, has it died?

are you worn out?

Or has the fiery spirit survived?
